Why did we sponsor Asha?

Asha is the third child in a family of four children. Her mother passed away, and her father remarried. The family grows crops on their small plot of land for their own consumption, but due to periods of drought or excessive rainfall, the harvest is often poor. As a result, little or nothing is left to sell at the market. Her parents occasionally earn some extra income by working as casual agricultural laborers. Their income is just enough to cover the family’s basic needs. Asha completed her primary education at the Steven Tito Academy in Bagamoyo at the end of 2018.

Although no tuition fees are charged for public secondary education in Tanzania, her parents did not earn enough to allow Asha to continue her studies. They were unable to afford the additional costs of boarding school accommodation and school supplies. Therefore, Kids to School decided to sponsor Asha’s boarding and school-related expenses from 2019 onwards. At the end of 2022, Asha successfully completed her secondary education.

Higher education would significantly improve Asha’s prospects of building a better future. For this reason, Kids to School also sponsored her further education since February 2024. She first attended several general computer courses. In June 2024, she started the first semester of a vocational training program to become a preschool teacher. Unfortunately, she was not eligible to sit the examinations for this program. Her sponsorship ended at the end of 2024.

Hoe gaat het nu met Asha?

Asha chose to work with young children. Thanks to the semester of preschool teacher training she completed, she was able to start working as a volunteer at a childcare center in Bagamoyo.

In 2025, Asha got married.
