Why did we sponsor Bernard?
Bernard is a former street child who found a home at The Baobab Home, an orphanage in Bagamoyo. He completed both his primary and secondary education there.
As a former street child, Bernard had no family support to rely on for further education. The Baobab Home was also unable to cover the cost of higher education. Therefore, Kids to School sponsored Bernard’s journalism studies since 2008. He successfully completed his studies in 2012.
How is Bernard doing now?
Although Bernard was unable to find work as a journalist in Tanzania, his education enabled him to support himself through a variety of temporary jobs. As a result, he has had opportunities that would never have been available to him without an education.
Bernard was eventually given the opportunity to move to Sweden, where he now works as an accredited journalist. He is grateful that his education has allowed him to build an independent life. He is also the father of a son, for whom he shares part-time care.
