Why did we sponsor Harriet?
Both Harriet’s parents died before she was two years old. Harriet was born disabled, she misses one leg. She was able to go to primary school with the help of her uncle. Thanks to the Liliane fund she has been able to attend secondary school. Harriet finished high school in December 2017.
Harriet wanted to be a teacher but monye for school fees was not available. She depended totally on her uncle and he does not earn enough to pay her further education. Kids to School has been sponsoring her since September 2018, giving her the opportunity to become self-sufficient and provide for herself in the future. She started at the Regional Teacher Training College in Makindu in January 2019. She also had a baby during the course of her studies.
Harriet obtained the teaching certificate at the end of 2021. After graduating she started working as a primary school teacher, enabling her to support herself and her young son. She still lives with her uncle. She plans to resume her studies part-time in order to graduate with a diploma and find a better paying job. Her education has given her the opportunity to build an independent and better future for herself.
