Mercy’s dream was to get a good job so she could repay her mother for all the sacrifices she had made to raise her. She also hopes to help underprivileged children whose dreams are cut short due to the inability to access quality education.

Why do we sponsor Mercy?
Mercy’s father died of cancer when she was eleven years old. Her single mother, who relied on temporary jobs, could not afford the school fees for her six children. As a result, Mercy was often sent home from school because her fees had not been paid. But Mercy was a bright student, ranking second in her class. Recognizing her potential, Kids to School decided to sponsor her from 2018 onwards, enabling her to continue her education and improve her future opportunities. Mercy successfully completed secondary school in May 2021 with a B+ grade, although her graduation was delayed by six months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Because of her strong academic performance and motivation, Kids to School offered her the opportunity to pursue higher education. In September 2021, Mercy began a Bachelor of Business Information and Technology program. She completed this degree with good results in November 2024.
After completing her studies, Mercy worked as an ERP Consultant. She now works as a freelancer, teaching people how to use powerful AI tools for business, education, and content creation.
Mercy is currently looking for a permanent position in the IT sector so that she can earn enough to support not only her family but also needy people in her community.
Mercy’s own words (Kids to School Newsletter July 2024)
I grew up with my parents and five siblings in rural Kenya. My childhood was loving but with hardships. It changed dramatically when her father, a craftsman and the family’s main breadwinner, died when she was eleven years old. My mother worked as a casual labourer to support the family. My high school education fuelled my dream of becoming a doctor, but my high school math grades were too low to get admitted. Delving into alternative paths, I stumbled upon the rapdidly evolving world of technology. The more I explored, the more captivated I became: technology is a realm of endless possibilities. So I chose to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business information technology. University life was challenging, but I developed a love for problem-solving and innovation. I envisions a future as a senior softwaredeveloper or tech entrepreneur. I have been supported by Kids to School for seven years, starting in the 2ndgrade of high school. KtS provided financial support and a strongsense of community and belonging. My best memory is my first Kids to School student day, where I felt embraced by a warm, supportive community. My advice to new KtS students: “With the support of KtS and your own determination, you can achieve great things.”
