Nancy wanted to have vocational training so she can earn a living for herself and contribute to the support of her grandmother and younger siblings.

Why did we sponsor Nancy?
Nancy and her younger brother are being cared for by their grandmother, who is also responsible for the three children of her late daughter. Both of Nancy’s parents have passed away. The grandmother owns a small plot of land where she grows vegetables to sell, but the income is not sufficient to cover the children’s educational expenses. Only through the support of the headteacher of the secondary school and many others was Nancy able to complete her secondary education.
In September 2023, Nancy began training to become a hairdresser and beautician. This was funded through the money she earned from work after finishing secondary school, together with financial support from people around her. By December 2023, the funds had run out. Nancy is eager to continue her studies. Kids to School wants to give her the opportunity to receive a good education, and her sponsorship started in January 2024.
Nancy hopes that the knowledge and skills she gains through her training will enable her to build an independent future. She also hopes to contribute to her grandmother’s living expenses.
Nancy successfully completed her training at the end of 2025. This qualification will greatly enhance her prospects of building a better future and become financially self-sufficient.
Nancy’s own words
My name is Nancy (2001). I grew up in a family of four. My single mother and my younger brother and sister my two younger siblings. My mother worked hard to fed for us, Life was better until we lost her when I was in class 8. I did my class 8 exam then I relocated to the village to stay with my grandmother. life was not easy there but we received support from well-wishers and I thank God I was able to finish my high school. After finishing my high school I stayed at home with my grandmother helping with farm work since we did not have money to send to college. I later started working as a house girl to see if I can save some money to so as I can join a college, it was not easy until I was connected with mentor Andrew who was able to help me to join the kid to school program. I was able to join Murang’a Technical College were I studied Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy which I finished and graduated last year 2025. I now work in Naivasha and am able to fed for myself and assist my grandmother and my siblings. Am really grateful to kids to school program for coming through for me and making a difference in my life.
