Why did we sponsor Nicholaus?
Nicholaus father died when he was in form 3 of secondary school. After his high school graduation in 2002 his mother could not afford the cost of higher education for her eldest son. For 7 years he worked as a gardener for the church of the Dominican Sisters, waiting for an opportunity to start vocational training.
Kids to School was happy to provide him with the opportunity to pursue continued education that would improve his future prospects. As a result, he was sponsored from 2008 to 2013. After graduating, he started a career in the automotive industry.
Nicholaus, the eldest son in the family, now makes a significant contribution to supporting his mother and younger family members. He has build a house for his mother and enabled his nieces to go to secundary school and one niece to university.
He is also actively involved in his church community. He has been an example there, showing parents that his automotive training has landed him a good job. That encouraged people to send their children to similar schools, promoting their future possibilities.
For many years now Nicholaus is part of the Local Advisory Committee of Kids to School. He is in regular contact with several of our current students, whom she mentors, motivates, and supports in their studies and personal development. His involvement and this personal connection are of tremendous value to our students. It is wonderful to see that, after once being sponsored himself, Nicholaus now gives back in this way by contributing to the education of young people and to the wider community.
