Why did we sponsor Vivian?
Vivian is one of 22 children in a polygamous Maasai family. Her parents have no formal education, and the sale of livestock and beadwork provides income for the entire family. Vivian completed primary school in October 2016. She was supposed to start secondary school in January 2017, but due to a lack of money, her father decided that only the boys in the family would be allowed to go to secundary school. Vivian and her older sister, who had just completed her first year of secondary school, had to stay home and help earn money for the family.
Because girls deserve the same opportunities for education as boys, Kids to School decided to support Vivian so that she could still begin her secondary education in January 2018. A good education increases the chances of building an independent and successful future.
Vivian had a daughter in 2021 during the corona pandemic. At the end of 2022, she was still able to complete her secondary education with good results (grade C). Vivian decided not to pursue any further education.
