Why do we sponsor Benson?
Benson was sponsored by COTTR throughout his secondary school education. His mother, who is raising five children, is unable to support the family on her own, as her husband is an alcoholic and contributes nothing. During school holidays, Benson and his siblings work as casual laborers on farms to help support their mother. In January 2024, Benson began studying Clinical Medicine with financial support gathered from many generous donors, but he had to stop after the first semester because he could no longer afford the costs. KtS is now sponsoring him so that he has the opportunity to continue his studies.
Benson expects to receive his diploma in 2027. The job prospects in healthcare are good in Kenya, especially for those who have been trained at a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), such as Benson.
