Why do we sponsor Joshua?
Joshua was able to attend secondary school thanks to sponsorship from Community Organisation & Training for Risk Reduction (COTRR). The family’s income was far too low to cover education costs for their seven children. His father does not provide for the family. He struggles with alcoholism and earns a small income by renting out his land, but repeatedly sells his possessions to finance his drinking. Joshua’s mother does everything she can to support the family, selling tea at the local market, but despite her efforts, the family remains trapped in poverty.
Joshua has always been determined to help his mother provide for the family. After completing secondary school, he took on manual labour jobs and used his earnings to buy two goats. However, his father soon sold the goats and spent the money on alcohol. Despite these challenges, Joshua has proven himself to be a highly motivated and exceptional student, graduating with an A- grade, one of the highest scores possible.
COTRR, his former sponsor, was unable to fund his further education. As a result, Joshua was entirely dependent on external sponsorship to continue his studies. Kids to School is proud to support him in pursuing higher education, giving him the opportunity to build an independent future and work towards achieving his goals.
Joshua is highly motivated, works hard, and feels fortunate to have the opportunity to study Mechatronics. He expects to graduate in 2029.
This degree will provide him with an excellent opportunity to build a successful career. He hopes to support his mother and his brothers and sisters, and to contribute to reducing poverty within his wider community. Joshua looks forward to becoming a successful professional and using his achievements to help his community progress and thrive.
