Why do we sponsor Peninah?
Peninah comes from a family with 24 children. The family earns a living through the sale of cattle and goats, but their income is not sufficient to send all the children to school. Peninah has a physical disability and walks with the aid of a prosthetic leg. Since 2011, she had been living at the Rehabilitation Center in Loitokitok, where she also attended primary school. She was able to attend secondary school thanks to a scholarship from Equity Bank and graduated in 2021 with good results.
Her parents did everything they could to support her university education. However, because of the drought, the family’s income declined significantly. They even sold their last cow to cover the costs of Peninah’s first year of study. Unfortunately, they had no means of raising the funds needed for her second year. Kids to School deeply appreciates the sacrifices Peninah’s family has made to ensure she could continue her education. Since September 2023, Kids to School has been sponsoring her, giving her the opportunity to pursue her studies without the burden of financial worries.
She expects to complete her studies in 2027, thereby laying the foundation for an independent future and helping her family break free from the cycle of poverty.
