Alumnis

Lucy was born in 1997. She is the youngest in a family of three girls. Her father passed away in 1998. The care for the income falls solely on her mother. Initially with temporary jobs but in the end she gets a permanent job as a cleaner at Kenyatta University. She was fired in 2015 due to budget cuts. Lucy also graduated from high school in 2015, but her mother’s income is so low that a study is not possible. Between 2016 and 2019 she works in a shop, but due to Corona that will stop in 2020. Andrew, a member of the local advisory committee, hears about this and sponsors her, first with friends but later alone, so that she can start a 2-year training in catering and accommodation. She has completed her first year. From January 2023, Kids to School will sponsor her. Lucy finished her study in January 2024..

Harriet was born in 1998. Both her parents died before she was two years old. She has one sister. Harriet was born disabled, she misses one leg. She was able to go to primary school with the help of her uncle. Thanks to the Liliane fund she has been able to attend secondary school. Harriet finished high school in December 2017. She wants to be a teacher. Kids to School has been sponsoring her since September 2018. She has been attending the Regional Teacher Training College in Makindu since January 2019. She obtained the certificate at the end of 2021. Since then she has been working as a starting primary school teacher. She plans to resume her studies part-time in order to graduate with a diploma and find a better paying job.

Beatrice was born in 2000. She is the eldest daughter in a monogamous Masai family and has three sisters and two brothers. Both parents have had no education whatsoever. Their income depends on temporary work and a few goats. Kids to School has been sponsoring her since January 2017. Beatrice was then in the second grade, “form 2”, of the Njonjo Girls’ High school in Nyahururu. At the end of 2019, Beatrice graduated from high school with good grades. Despite Corona, Beatrice started her studies in Public Administration and Leadership at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in October 2020. Beatrice took her last exams at the end of 2023. She is now waiting for the official graduation.

Maen was born in 2004. She is the second child in a family of six children. The family lives in Kajiado County. The father had a few years of primary school education and the mother had no education. Her mother is the main breadwinner in the family. Maen completed primary school with good results and started secondary school last year. Because there was not enough money to pay the school fees, she missed the last part of the year. Kids to School has sponsored her since January 2020, when she was in the second grade. She will graduate from high school at the end of 2022. Maen will be married in 2023 and has decided not to continue her studies for the time being.

Salim was born in 2002. He is the youngest of three children and lives with his mother in Bagamoyo. His mother earns a living with some farming. Salim completed the Steven Tito Academy at the end of 2018. In Tanzania, no school fees have to be paid for secondary school. Since 2019, Kids to School has paid for Salim’s boarding school and school supplies. He goes to Kiwangwa secondary school. Salim successfully completed secondary school at the end of 2022. In July 2023, Salim started A-level at the Cornerstone Leaderships Academy. This means that his further education is sponsored by this organization.

Leah was born in 2005. She has two older sisters. Her father is retired and was a teacher. He passed away a couple of years ago.  Her mother has passed away when she was a young child. The family lives with the grandmother. Leah completed the Steven Tito Academy at the end of 2018. In Tanzania, no school fees have to be paid for secondary school. Vivian was born in 2004. She lives in Kenya. She is one of 22 children from a polygamous Masai family. Her parents are not educated and the sale of cattle and beads must provide income for the entire family. Vivian completed primary school in October 2016. Because school fees could not be paid, Vivian did not go to school in 2017. Kids to School has sponsored Vivian since January 2018. She was then in the first grade of St. Clare Girls secondary school. In the Corona time, in 2001,she had a daughter. She graduated from high school with a C (about a 7) at the end of 2022. Vivian has indicated that she is not interested in further education.

Julius was born on September 5, 2001. He lives in Kenya. He has one sister, who is now six years old. Both father and mother try to provide for their family with temporary jobs. This is especially difficult because the father lost his leg in an accident. This makes finding work even more difficult. Kids to School has sponsored him from January 1, 2018, when he was in the second year of secondary school in Kiambu. Julius is now in fourth grade and has to take his final exams in November 2020. With a delay of six months due to the Corona pandemic, Julius successfully completed secondary school (C-) in May 2021. He started his studies at Thika Technical Engineering Institute in September 2021. This study lasts three years. Julius did not complete this study and unfortunately there is no longer any contact with him.

Monicah was born in 2001. She has one younger sister. Her mother is divorced and takes care of the children alone. With the help of various donors, Monicah was able to go to high school. She graduated at the end of 2019 and passed with good grades. In November 2020 she started her study Community Development and Environment at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Environment. The study lasts 4 years and leads to a Bachelor of Science. Kids to School has been sponsoring her since November 2020. Monicah graduated in December 2023.

Valary was born in 2000. She is the youngest daughter in a family of three children, two girls and one boy. Her brother and sister have attend high school with help of well wishers. Because of the problems after the 2007 election, her father fled. In the end, this led to a divorce of the parents. Her mother has a small garden and doesn’t make enough money to send her daughter to school. Kids to School sponsors her since January 2017. Valary was in the third grade of the Sacred Heart Girls School in Mukumu. Valary graduated in November 2018 and passed with good grades. In September 2019 she started her studies Bachelor of Art, Gender Women & Development. This study lasts four years. Valary graduated in October 2023.

Faith was born in 1998. She is the oldest in a family of four children, two boys and two girls. Her mother is single and tries to maintain her family with temporary work. During the secondary school Faith was sponsored by COTRR. Kids to School works with this organisation. Faith studies Pharmacy at Kabarak University. Kids to School sponsors Faith since July 2018.The Study lasted 5 years. At the end of 2022, Faith graduated from Kabarak University as the best student in pharmacology. In preparation for her working life, she is now doing a paid internship with the government.

Daniel was born in 1995. He is the fourth son in a family with five sons. During the problems after the 2007 elections, the family was badly affected and they lost everything. The violence has made the family very passive. Kids to School now gives him the chance to start a study. Kids to School has been sponsoring him since January 2019. Daniel is studying ICT at Thika technical training Insitute. The study lasts three years. Due to Corona there is a delay in the study of Daniel. Daniel finished his study in December 2022. Currently he has a temporary job and is looking for a permanent job.

John was born in 1999. He lives in the Philippines. John is the second in a family with five children. Due to lack of money, he was unable to continue his studies after high school. Kids to School has been sponsoring him from September 2018 till June 2022. He studied English at Cebu Normal University.

The training lasted four years. John graduated magna cum laude in June 2022. He works as a teacher.

Esther was born in Kenya in 1996. Her mother died and her father has remarried and now has three children with his new wife. The father has a few years of elementary school and has an occasional job. Esther has been sponsored by Kids to school since 2011. She finished secondary school in Raruowa  in 2013 and began studying Law at the School of Law, Kenyatta University in Nairobi, in September 2014. She graduated in December 2018. Esther plans to complete her studies with training as a lawyer. After an intermediate year, she started this study in January 2020. This study lasts one year. Esther graduated in March 2022. The official presentation of her diploma will follow later this year. 
Christine was born in 1994. She lives in Nairobi. Her parents are divorced and she lives with her mother. She has one brother and two sisters. Poverty didn’t allow her to start secondary school until she was 18. In 2015 she graduated and passed her exam. Christine lives with her mother and her youngest sister in Kibera one of the largest slumbs in Africa. In September 2017, thanks to the support of Kids to School, she started studying Bachelor of Arts, Social Work and Community Development  at the University of Nairobi. The study has seven semesters. She successfully completed her study in 2021 and graduated in December 2022.

Rose was born in 1998. After her mother’s death, the situation in the family deteriorated. She left home at a young age, worked as a household help and thanks to her worker she was able to finish primary school. Because of her good results, she was able to go to a good high school. Unfortunately, she had to leave the school due to lack of money. By working as a household help in Nairobi, she managed to pay for the first two years. The last two years of high school she has been sponsored by Calvary Temple. Over the past year, thanks to the help of VAP, she has achieved the certificate for interior design. Kids to School has been sponsoring her since January 2019 so that she can get her diploma in 2020.  With a delay due to Corona, Rose concluded her study in 2021. The officail graduation was in Deecember 2022.

Michelle was born in 2000. She lives in the Philippines. Michelle is the oldest child in a family with four children. Due to lack of money, she was unable to continue her studies after high school. Kids to School has been sponsoring her since September 2018. She studies Business Administration at the University of Iloilo. The study originally lasted three years.

Michelle graduated in July 2021. The official graduation was in  2022.

Lydia was born in 2001. Both her parents died before she was two years old. She has five brothers. Only her oldest brother studied, the other four only attended primary school. Lydia finished primary school at the end of 2016. Due to lack of money, she went through the first two years of the with a lot of absenteeism. Kids to School has been sponsoring her since January 2019, she is now in form four of high school. She hoped to graduate by the end of 2020. With a delay of six months due to the Corona pandemic, Lydia successfully completed secondary school (D+) in May 2021. She did not  continue with a futher education. 

Lilian was born in 1992. She lives in Kenya. Both her parents died. She has no brothers or sisters. Lilian has been sponsored by Kids to School since 2011. She completed her high school, St. Lucy’s Raruowa Girls High School, in 2013 and started a study in Clinical Medical Surgery and Community Health at Kenyan Methodist University in Meru in September 2014. Lilian graduated in October 2017.She then passed the national exam in December of that year. Lilian completed her clinical internship at Central Coast Hospital in Mombasa. She has been working in this hospital since January 2020.
Morine was born in 1996. She lives in Kenya.She has three brothers who all have only had primary school. Her mother died. Her father is married again and now has a family with four young children. He works as a security guard. Morine has been sponsored by Kids to school since 2011. She graduated from high school, St. Lucy’s Raruowa GirlsHigh School, in 2013.In September 2015, Morine started nursing training at the Cicely McDonnell School of Nursing, affiliated with Nairobi Hospital. This study lasts three years. She successfully completed her studies in November 2018. She has been working at Nairobi Hospital since January 2019.
Anna was born in 2004. She lives in Tanzania. She is the only child, her mother died at her delivery. There is no information about her father. Her grandmother made sure that she was admitted to a children’s home Irente Children’s Home. She was in standard 6 of the Usambara English Medium Primary School. She has no sponsors since 2016. Kids to School sponsors her fom January 2016 till November 2018. She finished primary school in November 2018. Anna visits now form 1 of the high school.
Irene was born in Kenya in 1994. She is the daughter of a father, without training, and his 2nd wife. Her mother died in 2003. There are eight children in this polygamous family. Irene has been sponsored by Kids to School since 2009. Irene finished her high school in 2012 and in September 2013 she began her education in Business Administration at Kenyan Methodist University. Since early 2013 Irene has participated in the program of Maasai Girls Education Fund (MGEF). Irene was awarded her diploma with good results in April 2015 and in September 2015 she began with her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She graduated in October 2018. She expects to find a job soon.
Meryshel was born in 1997. She lives in the Philippines. Meryshel has a twin brother. She is a fourth year student at the Central Phillipine University. She does a bachelor study Business Administration Major Financial Management. This study is four years. She is a good student. The parents both have temporary jobs but because of money Meryshel had to stop her study. Kids to School sponsors her last year. In april she graduated cum laude. Since June 2018 she works at the Department of Labor and Employment.

Clare was born in 1991 in Kenya. She is one of 22 children from a polygamous Maasai family.  Her parents were not educated, and income from the sale of cows and goats has to provide for the whole family. Clare was about to be married when she came in contact with Sr. Jocelyn Pecto. Kids to School has supported her since 2008. Clare finished her high school in 2012 and in September 2013 she began training in “Early Childhood Development” at the Kibwezi Teacher Training College in Kajiado. She got her pre-certificate in January 2015. In 2015 she got married and she had a son. Clare will continue her studies in January 2016. Clare has been participating in the Masaai Girls Education Fund (MGEF) Program since 2013. In March 2017, Claire obtained her nursery school teacher certificate. Kids to School sponsored her until March 2017. She works as a nursery school teacher. Clare lives in Lenkisem and had her second child in 2018.

P1010690_Elisabeth Elizabeth was born in 1993 in Kenya. She is one of 26 children from a polygamous Maasai family. One of her brothers attended high school and he is responsible for the whole family now that the father is too old to work. Kids to School has sponsored Elizabeth since 2009, as her family could not afford her school fees. Elizabeth finished her high school in 2012 and in September 2013 she began her study for a certificate in “Human Resource Management” at the Technical Training Institute Maasai in Kajiado. Elizabeth is married in 2014 and she has a baby-girl now. In January 2016 she has taken up her study again. Since early 2013, Elizabeth has participated in the program of Maasai Girls Education Fund (MGEF). In March 2017 she completed her study with the pre-certificate.

Sindiyo was born in 1992. She lives in Kenya. She is one of 12 children in a polygamous Maasai family. Her father is an alcoholic. Her mother sells charcoal to provide for the family. Abigail has been sponsored by the Maasai Girls Education Fund since 2002 and has been sponsored by Kids to School since 2012. She is currently taking a course in “Community Development and Social Work” at Mount Kenya University. Abigail made a successful start and was awarded her diploma after 1.5 years. We have therefore given her the opportunity to continue studying for a bachelor’s degree, which she began in January 2014. She got her bachelors in June 2017. The last year of her study the Maasai Girls Education Fund has sponsored her again.

  Jenny S_2016_1 Jenny was born in 1997. She lives in the Philippines. Jenny has two sisters. She has been sponsored by Kids to School since 2013. She does the undergraduate education Elementary Education with specialization in General Education at the West Visayas State University. She wants to be a teacher. The study takes four years. In March 2017 Jenny has finished her study cum laude. She works now as an English teacher.
 P1010804_ Mary was born in Kenya in 1991. She is one of five children from a polygamous family. Mary’s parents died in 2004. Mary has been sponsored by Kids to School since 2011. Mary finished the high school in 2012 and in August 2013 she began the training for a certificate in “Social Work and Community Development” at the African Institute of Research and Development Studies (AIRADS) in Kisumu. Mary completed her study with good results in 2014 and Kids to School gave her the chance to do a further study. In September 2014 she began to study for a diploma. Mary has completed her diploma study in July 2016 and has received the official certificate in November 2016. The next step will be finding a job.She works as a volunteer.

Emily was born in 1991. She lives in Kenya. Her father deserted the family when she was 12 years old. Her mother has no education and sells charcoal as the only means of providing for her family. Her income is not enough to give her children an education. Emily was a very good student and she studied “Hospitality and Tourist Management” at the Kenyatta University. Kids to School has sponsored her since 2012. Emily has got her bachelor’s degree in December 2015. The official graduation ceremony was in July 2016. Emily has been sponsored by Kids to School between 2012 and 2016. In the KtS newsletter-Feb 2017 you will find part of the story of her life. In the link you can read the full story. IMG_0384_Marvin Marvin was born in 1993. He lives in the Philippines. He is the eldest son in a family with three children. His father was a small farmer and the family survives on rice cultivation. In 2011 he had to stop his training as “marine engineer” at St Therese-MTC Tigbauan Site colleges, due to lack of money. He has been sponsored by Kids to School since 2011. In 2014 Marvin completed the theoretical part of his study. The past year Marvin has done his internship which he finished in the summer of 2015. He is now looking for a job.
P1010789 Nicholas was born in 1980. He is the eldest son in a family with five children. The death of his father made further education for the children impossible. Between 2008 and 2013 he was sponsored by Kids to School. He graduated as a car mechanic and has a job at CarMaster Kenya Ltd in Nairobi. Nicholaus is a member of the Local Advisory Counsel of Kids to School.
P1010742_Masento Bernadette was born in 1987. Between 2008 and 2011 she was sponsored by Kids to School. She studied social work and community development and graduated in 2011. Since that time she has worked for a number of organizations such as Child Fund, AMREF and MGEF.  Bernadette Masento has been for four years a member of the Local Advisory Counsel of Kids to School. Bernadette Masento has now a job as Secretary of the Kajiado county senator.
IMG_1910_Agnes Agnes was born in 1987. She was sponsored by Kids to School from 2009 to 2012. She graduated as a secondary school teacher in the subjects geography and religions. Currently she works as a teacher at the Christ the King high school in Kimana, Loitokitok. She has one daughter. In addition to caring for her daughter and her work she studies at the Marist International College for her bachelor’s degree.
P1040062_Jacqeline Jacquelinewas born in 1986. She was sponsored by Kids to School between 2008 and 2010. She is a teacher and works in the Ilmao primary school in Sultan Hamud. In 2013-2014 she studied part time for her diploma which she achieved in 2014. Jacqueline is married to Stanley Nairi and they have a son.

Levis was born in Kenya in 1993. She is one of five children. Her father died. Her mother attended primary school for a few years, and earns her living by selling vegetables. Levis has been sponsored by Kids to School since 2011. Levis completed her high school, St. Lucy’s Raruowa Girls High School, in 2012 and in January 2014 she began her studies in accountancy at the Kenyan Accountancy College in Nairobi. Unfortunately, she failed the first year and had to stop this study. Kids to School decided to give her another chance and in September 2015 she began a study in Information Technology. Unfortunately, she has not seriously taken up the study and has not kept in touch with her contact person in Nairobi. We find it very unfortunate that we had to turn off the program the beginning of 2016.
